Written by two internationally renowned authors in the sciences and engineering to ensure a multidisciplinary approach, this is the essential textbook on a growing field that is increasingly finding industrial applications.
Following an introduction to ceramic membranes, the text goes on to treat the fundamentals of membrane separation, followed by an overview of characterization techniques, applications, and the economics. Each chapter ends with qualitative and quantitative exercises, as well as around 150 literature references.
An accompanying website features solutions to selected exercises, as well as PowerPoint slides of all of the figures in the book, and a full list of all references complete with their DOIs.
Since membrane processes are usually taught either at the end of the undergraduate degree or during graduate studies, this textbook is aimed at both senior undergraduates and graduate researchers.

Dr. Vitaly Gitis is a Senior Lecturer at the Unit of Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel. Dr. Gitis obtained his academic degrees from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and for the last 15 years he is specializing in the field of membrane separation. He has published more than 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals and received a Marie Curie Fellowship for the years 2010-2012.

Prof. Gadi Rothenberg is Professor and Chair of Heterogeneous Catalysis and Sustainable Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam. He published over 120 papers in peer-reviewed journals and discovered two catalysts, for which he received the Marie Curie Excellence Award in 2004 and the Paul Rylander Award in 2006. Prof. Rothenberg also founded two companies: Sorbisense A/S (Denmark), and Yellow Diesel BV (Netherlands) His research centers on catalyst discovery, focusing on ceramic and hybrid organic/inorganic materials.
