The present work gives current data on all aspects of the medical problem, from aetiology and pathology to financial aspects, medico-legal implications, and current nursing practices. It reviews the knowledge and techniques currently available to the clinician and focuses on evidence-based knowledge for prevention, treatment and assessment of pressure ulcers. Specific patient groups include the Spinal Cord Injured. Current and future techniques are described that will provide information on the susceptibility of subjects to pressure ulcer development and the possibilities of tissue repair using tissue engineering strategies.
