Updates in Colo-Proctology
Updates in Colo-Proctology
Colo-proctology is a fast-growing field and covers all aspects of pathology of the colon, rectum and anus. This book presents articles by international authorities which may lead to new diagnostic and therapeutic methods and research projects. It is based on the proceedings of the 2nd Anglo-Swiss Colo-Proctology Meeting. The main sections of the book cover: 1. technical problems in diagnosis and therapy, with emphasis on sphincter-saving techniques, 2. colorectal cancer and the role of the colorectal surgeon, 3. inflammatory bowel diseases, with special reference to bacteriology, epidemiology and the diagnosis of perianal disease, 4. complications due to trauma or surgery, and 5. diverse subjects such as surgical technique, AIDS-re lated problems and incontinence. Two main topics, the treatment of rectal cancer and complex anal fistulas, are also discussed by experts in broad terms.
All of the contributions are based on recent works, and most of them present new approaches to essential problems in colo-proctology.
